Prayer and sacrament change the heart and help us to express our inherent connection as one human family, each made in God's image and likeness. Use the links and resources below to provide opportunities for prayer and liturgy in your school or parish community.^[1] Prayer has been practiced in all religions throughout history. Its characteristic postures (bowing the head, kneeling, prostration) and position of the hands (raised, outstretched, clasped) signify an attitude of submission and devotion.^[2] Prayer is attempted communication with supernatural beings (SBs) or metaphysical energies . The word derives from a 14th century French word ( preiere ) meaning "to obtain by entreaty .".The most common use of the word "prayer" is asking an SB for some favor or entreating an invisible force or energy to fulfill one's desire.^[3]

Prayer is seen mainly as a powerful psycho-physical practice that can enhance meditation. ^[4] Prayer is intimate, personal contact with our Father in Heaven. It is heart-to-heart conversation with our loving God.^[5] Prayer Transformation Ministries believes the call to repentant prayer for transformation is the biblical standard for today. ^[6]

Prayer flags are inscribed with auspicious symbols, invocations, prayers, and mantras. Tibetan Buddhists for centuries have planted these flags outside their homes and places of spiritual practice for the wind to carry the beneficent vibrations across the countryside.^[7]
